I chose several artifacts to show my proficiency in this standard. I chose two reflections I wrote, one about a parent-teacher conference I attended and one is about AVID tutorials I ran, and my instructional strategy reflection. I chose these artifacts for this standard because they clearly demonstrate how I go about reflecting on professional practices and that I do reflect on all of my practices. The instructional strategy reflection is a great example of this because I reflect on my strategy and presentation and think about how this strategy and others can be used in my professional practice. My two reflections are also good examples of this as I talk about my professional practice within them.
For this standard, I believe I am very close to advanced. I believe this because I have spent all of this semester reflecting on every thing I did in order to enhance my professional practice. I have realized, as I have grown this semester, how important it is to constantly reflect and enhance your practice, even for a veteran teacher. Without the ability to reflect, one cannot improve and their students will suffer. This is why my ability to thoroughly reflect on my practices will enhance student learning and facilitate an environment of learning and growing. Although these artifacts are the best examples of my proficiency in this standard, I have reflected on every artifact this semester.
Throughout the semester, I believe I have grown in this standard. If one were to compare my reflections on earlier assignments and the reflections I have provided above, it would be clear how much I have grown. My reflections have become more in-depth and contain more breadth as well. I've also started connecting my reflections of my professional practice to my professional goals. I consider how my reflections can impact my professional goals and I am able to respond accordingly. I also believe my reflections have prepared me to respond to dynamic and complex environments, which is extremely important for educators.
There are a few things I can do to become fully advanced in this standard. I believe one thing I could do to improve is continue to reflect on both my actions and instruction, as well as student learning. This will help me modify my lessons in several ways by giving me multiple perspectives. Another thing I can do to become fully advanced is reflect on my reflections. Every time I write a reflection, I should make sure I have considered student learning, instructional improvements, my professional goals, etc. This will ensure that my reflections are actually improving my professional practices. These practices will help me grow and improve as an educator and help me become advanced in reflecting on my professional practice.
