The artifacts I chose to demonstrate my proficiency in this standard are the assessment project and my lesson plan 2 and reflection. I chose these artifacts because I believe it is clear within them how I deliver effective instruction and create an environment that facilitates learning for students. For the assessment project, a team of future educators and I planned an assessment for students that spanned across all of our content areas. This project demonstrates how I can deliver effective instruction, even for an assignment that covers multiple contents. My lesson 2 is also a great example of my proficiency in this standard. This is because my instruction, as well as the technology used, etc. is clearly laid out within the plan. This is a great example of how I deliver effective instruction, as well as how I create an environment that facilitates learning for students.
For this standard, I believe I am proficient. One reason I feel proficient in this standard is how much practice I have gotten in delivering effective instruction. Not only have I demonstrated that in this class, but I have been teaching weekly lessons at Polaris elementary all semester as well. Both the lessons at Polaris, and my instruction in EDUC450, have helped me develop a proficiency in this standard. I've also grown when it comes to creating an environment that facilitates learning for students. I have grown by constantly reflecting on my lessons and what kind of environment I am facilitating. Throughout the semester, I have talked to many teachers about how to improve the classroom environment to facilitate student learning. Using their suggestions and tweaking them to make them my own has helped me grow so much and truly become proficient in this standard.
There are many assignments that demonstrate my proficiency in this standard. If one were to compare my first lesson and reflection with my second, it would be clear just how much I have grown in this area. Although I delivered effective instruction during my first lesson, I wasn't as proficient at creating an environment that facilitates student learning. I believe this has improved immensely and that can be reflected within my second lesson. My assessment project is also a great example of my proficiency in this standard. The project connects how I deliver effective instruction, even in group assessments that stretch across multiple contents. I believe it's also a great example of how I planned the instruction in order for it to be effective.
One thing I can do to improve within this standard is planning more in-depth questions. Sometimes I find that the questions I ask tend to be spur-of-the-moment. If I were to plan more questions, it would go far in allowing me to deliver truly effective instruction. Although I ask questions now, I need to practice planning them in order to become advanced in this standard. Another thing I can do to become advanced in this standard is utilizing group projects more often. A lot of the projects I use in my instruction are individual work. However, it's important to put students in groups so they have the opportunity to develop leadership skills. If I continue to work towards these goals, I will grow to be advanced in this standard.
