The artifacts I chose to demonstrate my proficiency in this standard are my data analysis and lesson plan 1 and reflection. I chose data analysis because I believe this shows my understanding of my content, as well as my pedagogical expertise. Because I clearly laid out a plan on how to improve my student's understanding based on their performances, this artifact is a clear example of my mastery of and pedagogical expertise in my content area. I also chose my lesson plan 1 and reflection as my second artifact for this standard. I chose this because of how thoroughly I planned that first lesson. It clearly shows that I have mastered my content. Both the lesson and reflection also include elements of pedagogy and how I can improve moving forward. In this way, I believe my lesson plan 1 and reflection are perfect demonstrations of my mastery of and pedagogical expertise in my content.
For this standard, I believe I am proficient. I believe this because I have worked incredibly hard to achieve mastery in my content. I've also put a lot of time and effort into improving my pedagogical expertise, as I found the classroom is one of the most efficient places to do so. Although my pedagogy skills can still be developed, I am confident I am proficient with them within the art content. I have grown throughout this semester in terms of this standard. I believe every assignment I have turned in can be used to demonstrate my growth in this area. This is because as the semester went on, I became more comfortable with my skills and more knowledgeable about what pedagogy in the classroom looks like.
It has become very clear to me that every student is different and has different needs. Not facilitating these needs is going directly against this standard. When planning both of my lessons, I made sure to think deeply about ways I could differentiate the lesson for students who had special needs. In the art content especially, it's important to think about how access to all materials can be given to every student. These examples and more are things teachers constantly need to be aware of in order to demonstrate pedagogical expertise. Because I have grown throughout the semester and have become more aware of student learning, and how to facilitate student learning, I believe I am proficient in this standard.
One thing I can do to become advanced in this standard is to continually check in with my students and adapt my teaching based on student learning and needs. Once I have my own classroom, I believe it will be much easier for me to become advanced. Working with students every day is more likely to lead to pedagogical expertise because you are more involved in student learning. Although I feel proficient in this standard, I'm excited to work with the same students every day so I can build my mastery even more.
